There was a nice bright green arc of aurora visible at around 40 degrees altitude to the north when I did a quick check outside at 21:40 UTC. However, on such a cold and windy evening it took some time to put on sufficient clothes so as not to freeze outside, and by the time I reached my site then the aurora was a little less bright and was lower in the sky than I had previously seen it. Image 1 at 21:58 UTC shows the auroral arc at around 30 degrees height but still a nice vivid green colour to the eye.

I watched the aurora at the site from 21:58 until 22:25 UTC, and during this entire period it stayed firmly to the north at between 20 and 30 degrees altitude and mostly moderate intensity. There was some weaker green up to 45 degrees at 22:00 and also a single tall ray appeared briefly in the north-west at 22:15, but generally there was little movement or clear change in structure. After 22:18 the activity weakened to leave a diffuse band of aurora at around 20 degrees height and hidden behind the mountains. Given the adverse weather conditions outside, I didn’t hang around longer for it to reappear! Some images from the night are shown below.
